The Meitetsu Kiha 8200 series is a diesel car that was developed as a vehicle for the JNR Takayama Line and began operation in 1969. Like the Kiha 8000 series that appeared earlier, the car body width was made smaller than the Japanese National Railways vehicle in order to operate on the Meitetsu Line where vehicle limits are small, and the side windows were articulated windows similar to the company's 7000 series panoramic cars. The same series has two engines for running, so its overall length is longer than the Kiha 8000 series. When it first appeared, it was painted as an express train similar to the JNR Kiha 58 series, but in 1976 it was upgraded to a limited express train and its paint became similar to the JNR Kiha 82 series. In 1991, it was replaced by the Kiha 8500 series and all cars were scrapped.
