The long-awaited return of the nimble 2WD racer that raced on the royal roads of 1/12 on-road cars !
In the 1980s, 1/12 scale on-road cars were the star category in electric R/C car racing, and the Phantom EP-4WD series, a four-wheel drive model sold by Kyosho, was overwhelmingly strong in that era. However, the Phantom also had a strong rival. That was the rear two-wheel drive Plasma series released by the same Kyosho. The Plasma Mk III Limited, the final and ultimate model of the 1980s Plasma series, is being revived after more than 30 years since its release in 1987! Like other Kyosho vintage series, this reprint model faithfully reproduces the original design, but has been improved to suit modern R/C mechanisms and power sources, so you can enjoy its driving to your heart's content as a current model. While using common components with the Phantom EP-4WD Ext, the simpler structure makes the body lighter, and on circuits with sufficient road grip, it can demonstrate speeds that surpass the Phantom. The main chassis is made of carbon fiber like the original, and the upper plate and A-bar joint bar, which were made of black FRP on the original, are now made of carbon. The differential unit on the rear axle is a ball differential that was first installed on the Phantom EP-4WD Ext Kyosho 60th Anniversary Model sold in 2023, making it a more luxurious and high-performance machine. The front suspension is a simple kingpin spring, allowing the caster angle to be adjusted. In addition, the reproduction version comes with two types of kingpins with slightly different outer diameters, allowing for fine adjustment of maneuverability. The body is a reproduction of the aerodynamic open cockpit type α-2, and the new Plasma MkIII Limited will create a new whirlwind in the Kyosho Vintage Series.
The long-awaited revival of the rear 2WD 1/12 racer with its attractive, light driving performance is the 16th installment of the Kyosho Vintage Series Reproduces the limited edition released in 1987 as a model exclusively for racing While retaining the design of the original 1987 model, each part has been updated to suit modern R/C mechanics and power sources Uses a 3-point suspension system that is standard and highly reliable for 1/12 EP racers The highly rigid carbon main chassis and upper plate are equipped with an FRP rear A-bar that provides moderate flex to increase tire grip Kingpin spring type front suspension that allows you to change the handling feel Dial-type rear oil damper allows for easy adjustment of spring tension Uses a ball differential whose effectiveness can be adjusted by tightening the nut Lightweight and high-strength φ6 carbon rear shaft is standard equipment Assembly chassis kit includes pre-glued front and rear tires and an unpainted body
A simple rear-wheel drive 2WD model in the classic style of 1/12 on-road racers from the 1980s. It is fitted with kingpin springs in the front and an A-bar type 3-point suspension in the rear.
The front and rear wheels are the same black type as those used on the Phantom EP-4WD Ext 60th Anniversary Model. The kit comes with pre-glued and pre-sized tires, so there is no need to use a tire setter to align the tires.
Kingpin spring suspension with springs mounted on the top of the front knuckle arms. Caster angle can be freely adjusted, and steering characteristics can be changed by replacing kingpins with different outer diameters and using or not using set screws. Wheel shaft is offset rearward from kingpin to improve driving stability.
The steering servo, which was originally fixed to the main chassis with double-sided tape and glass tape, has now been changed to a newly designed dedicated plate and aluminum mount. This makes it compatible with servos of different sizes from various manufacturers and does not affect the flex characteristics of the chassis.
The A-bar holds the rear axle unit and also functions as the rear suspension. It is made of highly flexible black FRP plate.
Based on the motor mount for the Phantom EP-4WD Ext reproduction, this motor mount has been modified to allow for the installation of a 540 motor. By changing the adapter that holds the rear shaft, the wheelbase can be adjusted by 1mm and the ground clearance by 1.3mm.
A ball-type differential unit, not found on the original Plasma, has been newly adopted. The LSD effect provides stable traction. The aluminum parts have a silver finish exclusive to the Plasma, and a special wheel bolt is used to secure the right wheel.
The rear shaft that holds the ball differential is made of lightweight and highly rigid carbon as standard. The shaft is 6mm in diameter and boasts high crash resistance.
The rear left wheel hub is the same double screw clamp type as the Phantom EP-4WD Ext 60th Anniversary Model, with a silver finish. It is highly precise and prevents loosening while driving.
The body is a reproduction of the α-2, which features sharp cornering characteristics that were also used in the original Plasma MK.III Limited. A separate rear wing is also included to increase rear tire grip.
