The Striking Hangar 9 Mustang
Inspired by the Mustangs flown in the 357th Fighter Squadron during WWII, the P-51D Mustang 60cc RC plane from Hangar 9 is a 1/5th-scale model made from lightweight balsa and plywood. Similar to Hangar 9's previous P51-D Mustang 150, this model is very well designed. Featuring full balsa-sheeting, this Hangar 9 plane strikes a great balance between scale appearance and durability. The P-51D Mustang features details such as a tail wheel, functioning flaps and internally-mounted power switches. For convenient transportation, Hangar 9 have given this warbird a three-piece wing design which comes with plug-in outer panels, allowing for the centre panel with the landing gear to stay attached to the fuselage. The airfoiled horizontal tail sections are also removable.
Hangar 9 are renowned for their scale models. In keeping with this tradition, this Hangar 9 giant-scale plane comes out of the box with scale features such as a removable antenna, gun details and more. The inner gear doors have also been designed to sequence in a scale manner using common components. The steerable tail wheel comes with doors and the option of adding a retractable electric tail wheel assembly (sold separately), which can be bolted-in. The Mustang also features a genuine UltraCote covering. Furthermore, Hangar 9 have equipped this model plane with a sliding canopy, full-depth cockpit and two sets of marking decals. The first set is "Glamorous Glen III", as flown by Captain Chuck Yeager. The second set features "Gentle Jim" decals, similar to those used by Captain Jim Browning.
