Ford Falcon XY 351 Police Interceptors
‘The story goes that with the world’s fastest four door production car, the XY Ford Falcon GTHO, prowling the streets in Australia in the early seventies, the Police were at a loss to come up with anything to keep up should a pursuit ensue so, they decided to fight fire with fire and ordered a number of special GTHO Police spec’d XY Falcon 500's that were known as ‘Pursuit’ cars, or ‘Interceptors’.
The 1971 Ford XY Falcon 351 Police Interceptor was one of the quickest Aussie cars back in the day. It’s rumoured that there was only 6 of these special interceptors built for the Victorian Police although others say 10?... Build spec and production numbers would have been a fairly closely held secret back in the day... in an attempt to keep those who might like to try to and outrun them in the dark...
Victorian cars like this white one were made at Ford Special Vehicle Orders (SVO) with engine code (H) & trans code (L)... reportedly capable of 162mph... yes, faster than the GTHO ... and much rarer.
