World War I Biplane Fighter

Originally designed for air racing, the Nieuport II was pressed into service to combat the deadly Fokker Eindecker, which it did. Soon its reputation for being a small, easy to fly, fighter plane earned it the nick name "Babe". The Nieuport II also represents the most colourful era for Allied Aircraft in World War I, as pilots custom painted their Babies in a wide variety of personal and patriotic colour schemes.
